One of the great joys of motherhood is the unpredictability of it all. Though we often start the day with a plan, we inevitably have hiccups that toss us into uncharted territory.
And just like motherhood, we dove into our debut photoshoot hoping for smooth sailing, only to find ourselves adrift, before we’d even stepped foot on set.
A delivery wasn’t picked up overseas because we filled a form out incorrectly, the ‘emergency’ bag of samples we had rushed through for the shoot went missing, our designer’s flight was delayed and it rained so heavily on the morning of the shoot, we weren’t even sure if we’d be able to get it done.
But here's the beauty of it all: perfection isn't our goal. While we strive for beautiful images, authenticity is our north star. We're not about presenting an airbrushed version of reality, because, let's face it, perfection is as elusive as my toddler sitting still.
What brought us the most joy in our charmingly imperfect first photoshoot was the generosity, creativity and unwavering enthusiasm of every mother on set. Not just in the time they gave, but their willingness and excitement to be a part of the brand that we love making. From our Photographer, Sammy (@thecandidfiles), Makeup Artist, Phoebe (@phoevefever) Hair Stylist, Luciana (@lucianarose) and all of our mummy ‘models’ who took their first steps in front of the camera.
Despite the breast milk leaks, the projectile vom that destroyed a top, and the toddler meltdown that caused one of our models to leave early; the true essence of motherhood shone through. No filter, no frills—just pure, unapologetic mumma magic.
What I now realise is that whilst things don’t go quite as planned, sometimes that means you find something better. An authentic laugh from a mumma getting pee’d on, playing peak-a-boo behind an apple pie taking us down a creative rabbit hole, and shifting the shots to the pool, simply because the kids wanted to have a swim.
Being forced to go with the flow from time-to-time really isn’t such a bad thing, especially when rewarded with genuine and heartwarming photographs of these incredible, endlessly interesting real mums.
